Hide 'n Seek

I found this old photo of Duncan and Daniel playing Hide 'n Seek back in 1997. Duncan had hidden in the pot cupboard. What a cutie. It's hard to imagine them being that small.
I've got a whole box of these Scrapworks glitter bugs so I'll have to come up with a couple more buggy layouts.

'How to' altered paper clips.

Aren't these clips great? I had some loose papers/journaling on a couple layouts and because many of my layouts end up being displayed on the wall at my LSS the papers would be coming loose so I decided rather then just slipping them under a paper band or putting them in a folder, I needed a more secure way to hold them on the layout.

So here's how I made them...

You will need:
-jumbo paper clips (you can find them in loads of fun colours)
-something round for the flower center (like the cute buttons you made with my last tutorial)
-ribbons
-flowers (small & large)
-adhesive (glue dots)
-scissors

Tie a length of ribbon through the button holes if that's what you're using for your flower center. Glue the button to the center of a small Prima bloom or paper flower.

The trickiest part of these clips (and it's really not that tricky) was making the ribbon petals. Cut 5 or 6 lengths of ribbon about 1" long. Fold them in half with a glue dot on the ends so they stay folded. Use glue dots to attach the ribbon petals to the back of your flower center.

Take your largest flower and if it's one you've cut from pattern paper or a paper diecut flower slide it onto the end of the paper clip. Now glue your flower center to the center of that large flower. When the glue is dry you are ready to use your clip.

For the clip that has a large Prima bloom as the bottom layer I used glue dots to attach it to my paper clip. If that doesn't hold I will slide a small paper circle onto the end of my paper clip and glue the flower to that. You can see this clip on the Hogwarts layout below.

Chipboard Buttons

One of the nice ladies(who's name coincidentally is also Heather) over at ScrapCentral posted a tutorial on making these fun chipboard buttons. What's really great about them is you can use scraps of patterned paper from your current project to make coordinating embellishments. I love not having to spend time trying to match colours and patterns. Here is my first attempt at making buttons. Below the picture is my 'how-to'.


What you'll need:
- chipboard
- circle punch or cutter
- adhesive
- scraps of patterned paper
- sand paper
- hole punch (crop-a-dile)
- embossing pad & UTEE
- heat gun

I used my Creative Memories circle cutter to cut the small round buttons. It won't cut all the way through the thick chipboard so I had to use my scissors to finish the job. The square button is a scrap from one of my chipboard sheets.

Glue the patterned paper to your chipboard. When it is completely dry trim the paper close to the chipboard. Use the sandpaper to neaten up the edges (I use one of those Bo Bunny sanding files) I also inked the edges of my buttons with my brown ink.

Punch two holes equal distance from the sides. The crop-a-dile makes this easy with it's slide ruler, but it's pretty easy to eyeball it :)

Use your embossing pad on the top of the button. Sprinkle UTEE on, shake off excess and then melt with the heat gun. Do 5 or 6 layers of UTEE to get a nice shiney coverage for your button. The button is light and will blow away on you when you point that heat gun at it, so I used my paper piercer through one of the button holes to keep it in place on the desk while I melted the UTEE

The journaling is inside the folder held in place with my paper clip. I'll tell you how to make it tomorrow.

swing me high

More pictures of me as a child. I'm so glad you took so many Mum and Dad. It's a lot of fun going through them and scrapping them. This one was done for week 3 of 'So You Think You Can Scrap' at www.scrapcentral.com. We had to use a music album cover for inspiration and choose a technique. My technique was inking. The album cover was 'Simple Plan' and was a B&W rustic looking cover.

The individual challenge this week for 'So You Think You Can Scrap' was to build 5 tags of different themes. These are mine. I'll use them on cards as I need them. Ignore the receipt. It was stuck to my scanner lid and I didn't notice it till I'd already posted the picture. Silly me.

Heritage layout...

For our 'So You Think You Can Scrap' challenge this week each team had to come up with 4 factors that made a Heritage layout and create a page using those 4 things, plus some kind of memorabilia and the journaling to go along with it. Lucy and I came up with B&W photo, lace, photo corners and brown tones as our 4 Heritage factors.
The memorabilia on my page is a pamphlet, a magazine article and a list of clothing from my stay at a nursery when my brother, Kim, was born. Don't know if 1964 is truly heritage, but it's about as far back as my stash of photo's goes.

These photos are from Duncan's trip to Grandma and Grandad's in Victoria, last summer. Used a lot of scraps on this page. It's good to use them up :)

2nd challenge

So You Think You Can Scrap challenge #2 was to finish off one of the challenges from the Anniversary crop last weekend. I did this boy layout. The challenge... scrap in colours that aren't masculine. This is Wade hiking on the Cow Trail this past summer.

So You Think You Can Scrap?

There's a contest/game going on at www.scrapcentral.ca and I'm signed up for it. I'm paired with Lucy from Ontario (Yeah, Lucy) and we're going to give the rest of them a run for their money!
The first challenge was to pick a theme song and do a layout using it. We picked 'We will Rock You' by Queen. An oldie, but a goodie.
I was in Prince George Monday to Thursday. The weather was so great. +1 so we were out walking, getting fresh air, and NOT freezing out tushes off. I did a bit of shopping. Found these great See D's journaling stamps, and some patterned EK Success alpha stickers. I also bought myself a new purse (not scrapping related, though it will hold way more goodies, including my camera, than my last one)
This is the layout I did for that first challenge.
